Bifurcated rivets are rivets that can be split open (or splayed). They can be used in place of screws to attach D-Rings to backing boards where frames are too narrow to fit a D-Ring and screw. Generally where using a Bifurcated rivet, the frame will be quite light in weight. Holes are punched through the backing board, and the D-Ring with the un splayed rivet is pushed through the hole. Once pushed through, the rivet can be splayed by hammering it against a hard surface. A screwdriver on edge can be used to splay the rivet with the hammer. Once splaying is complete, the splayed rivet can be taped with brown tape (to protect frame from dust, and cord can be tied to both D-Rings.
